Connection Process

The Six Step Connection Process

There are several steps to having an electricity supply connected at a new location. BizzEnergy offers a project managed package to liaise between all parties, co-ordinate the site works, and keep the BizzEnergy customer informed of progress and key dates.

Step 1 - The Distribution Company

The Local Distribution Company (LDC) has to be contacted. In the first instance you need to define your business supply capacity requirements for the new site/supply. This process requires a formal application to the LDC. Following your application, a quotation and works schedule is issued for the work required. The lead times for this process vary but 6-8 weeks is normal.

Step 2 - Meter Operator Agreements

If the site has an anticipated maximum demand of over 100kWh it is necessary to install a Half Hourly (HH) meter and an appropriate communications link. Before the HH metering is installed a valid Meter Operator Agreement must be in place between yourself and your appointed Meter Operator. You are free to choose your Meter Operator and you should negotiate terms directly with them.

A Non Half Hourly (NHH) meter is recommended for a supply with an anticipated maximum demand of less than 100kWh. It is not necessary to sign a meter operator contract for NHH supplies as BizzEnergy will appoint the local Meter Operator on your behalf and these charges are included within your BizzEnergy tariff.

Step 3 - Supply Contracts

In order to arrange the connection of a meter, BizzEnergy will first need to agree an appropriate tariff and electricity rate for your business. A supply contract offer is generated based on projected consumption volumes and usage patterns. Prompt acceptance of this agreement by an authorised person within your organisation is necessary to ensure that the project progresses as quickly as possible.

Step 4 - Registration

Receipt of the supply contract acceptance, (either by post or fax), enables BizzEnergy to register the new site. Following the successful registration an installation appointment request is sent to the Meter Operator.

Step 5 - Customer Wiring & Certificate of Completion

Your electrical installation is completed prior to energisation and must be compliant with current wiring regulations (BS 7671 - I.E.E. Wiring Regulation, 16th Edition), along with any other specific requirements stipulated by the LDC . Please note that in order for the Meter Operator to install and energise a meter, they first require a completion certificate, which you must obtain from your electrical contractor (who is fully aware of what this is). We advise that a copy of the certificate is available onsite for inspection by the Meter Operator on the day of the meter installation appointment. The purpose of the completion certificate is to guarantee that the supply is safe to connect and that it meets the appropriate safety regulations.

Step 6 - Lead Times

Please allow 20 working days to organise the meter installation appointment date from the time we receive the signed supply contract acceptance. This is based on the assumption that the LCD has already installed the cabling, and any other electrical wiring and site works have been successfully completed.
