Carbon Footprint

What is a Carbon Footprint?

Almost every organisation, large or small, contributes to the process of climate change through emission of harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Energy use and transport are the main contributing factors. The quantity of carbon dioxide (measured in tonnes) produced by your business activity is referred to as your organisation’s ‘carbon footprint’. A number of organisations are striving to become carbon neutral. Being carbon neutral means reducing your carbon footprint to zero.

Calculate your Carbon Footprint

What can my business do to reduce its carbon footprint?

  1. Reduce your energy use
  2. The first step to reduce your carbon footprint is to reduce energy and transport use. As a target, you should aim to reduce carbon emissions to their lowest cost-effective level. Don’t forget, reducing energy use also means reducing your business energy bill.

  3. Request an Energy Survey
  4. BizzEnergy offers Energy Surveys to help businesses identify the scope for reducing energy in the workplace. Out expert energy consultants suggest practical steps to implement energy saving measures.

  5. Rethink your energy supply
  6. As well as being more energy efficient you can also reduce your carbon footprint by switching to a renewable energy supply. This means the energy you use comes from renewable sources such as wind and water. This is often called Green Energy.

  7. Offset your carbon emissions
  8. You can reduce your overall carbon footprint by ‘offsetting’. This means taking positive action to counter the negative effects of carbon emissions. For example, planting trees increases the environment’s ability to absorb carbon dioxide and emit oxygen (through the process of carbon sequestration). BizzEnergy supports tree planting through the Trees for Life initiative.
